Munich: State Minister Gerlach Visits DZNE

Exchange on Dementia Research

Munich (Germany), October 2, 2026. Bavarian State Minister for Health, Care, and Prevention Judith Gerlach visited the DZNE’s Munich site this week.

During her meetings with site speaker Mikael Simons and other experts, the discussion focused on recent developments in dementia research and the Bavarian Dementia Pact.

“We greatly appreciated the exchange. A topic that came up and is particularly important to me is prevention. We need new strategies for dementia prevention. To achieve this, we must not only gain a better understanding of how Alzheimer’s disease develops, but also make more consistent use of the preventive measures already available,” says Prof. Mikael Simons.

At DZNE’s Munich site, around 100 researchers are working to advance the understanding of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and to develop new therapies. The site collaborates closely with the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, the Technical University of Munich – including their affiliated hospitals – and the SyNergy Cluster of Excellence.
