Exchanging knowledge and networking is an essential part of science and research. Beyond that, the DZNE invites the general public to join the dialogue on dementia research.
Events are an ideal platform to connect with our diverse audiences. Therefore, the DZNE hosts a variety of international symposiums and seminars as well as public events throughout the year.
We look forward to welcoming you at one of our events soon!
“Systems Genetics of Neural Ageing” is a six-and-a-half day residential Summer School during which 25 young researchers will be trained to make use of large-scale genetic data pertaining to brain ageing. Through a series of lectures and workshops, the participants will learn how to explore the wealth of genetic data now available and how to integrate these data into their active research programmes. At the same time, participants will apply the new skills learnt and exploit the expertise of the speakers in their own group research projects. During this intense week of learning and data analysis, each group will carry out a real, original study and prepare a draft manuscript. This unique format of hands-on learning, as proven in the past, is very effective—and a lot of fun! The restricted space of the island venue brings participants in much closer contact with the speakers, and with each other, than is typical in such workshops.
Organisers:
- Rupert Overall, Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany
- Gerd Kempermann, DZNE - German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases, Dresden, Germany
- Robert Williams, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, TN, USA
- Catherine Kaczorowski, The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, ME, USA
- Stefan Bonn, University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), Hamburg, Germany
“Systems Genetics of Neural Ageing” is hosted by the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen; DZNE) and funded by a grant to Rupert Overall from the German Ministry for Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung; BMBF) through their e:Med programme in systems medicine.

The DZNE lecture series presents world-leading scientists from life science research, covering the diverse research areas at the DZNE including fundamental biology, translational, clinical, epidemiological and systems medicine research. The lectures aim to foster an exchange between disciplines and catalyze scientific interactions. Furthermore, the lecture series puts an emphasis on enabling students and postdocs to informally interact with the speaker, including via a dedicated Speaker's Lunch following each Lecture.
