Kerstin Köhler

The Deutsches Zentrum für Neurodegenerative Erkrankungen (DZNE) - headed by the site in Witten - performs the work package 4.3.8 of the National Dementia Strategy, which is entitled 'health services research in relation to family carers of people with dementia'. Supported by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) the DZNE collaborates with the German Society for Nursing Science (DGP), the German Society for General Medicine (DEGAM), the German Alzheimer's Society and other stakeholders.

A comprehensive overview of current research results with regard to informal dementia carers will be compiled in an edited volume and examples of good practice will be described. Designated experts will develop recommendations for action that improve existing health and care services and that may strengthen family carers and promote stable care arrangements for people living with dementia. The edited volume is aimed at scientists, those responsible for counseling and care for family carers of people with dementia, as well as for political decision-makers.
