GenderDem

Research priorities for gender- and diversity-sensitive dementia care

Project overview

Project overview

The GenderDem project is a Priority Setting Partnership (PSP). It investigates which questions regarding gender and diversity in the context of psychosocial interventions for dementia have not yet been addressed. To this end, the perspectives of people with dementia, family members and caregivers, and professionals are incorporated. The research project is funded by the BMFTR.

Background

Dementia manifests in various ways. Psychosocial interventions—such as reminiscence therapy or exercise therapy—are offered for symptoms like depression, anxiety, or disinhibition. Which interventions are effective for whom varies greatly from person to person; this can depend on factors such as gender or a family history of migration. We therefore aim to identify which topics are important for future research in this field.

Survey

The current survey by the GenderDem project aims to identify which questions regarding psychosocial interventions for dementia-related symptoms are relevant from a practical perspective. It focuses on the significance of biological sex, gender, and diversity in the context of these interventions. The survey is available in both German and Turkish. All information provided will be treated confidentially and analyzed anonymously. Your participation in the survey makes a valuable contribution to ensuring that future dementia research is aligned with practical needs! The survey is addressed to people living with dementia, their family members and caregivers, and professionals working in the field of dementia (e.g., nursing, medical, and research staff).
