What are Dementia Leaders?

Dementia Leaders are people who have come into contact with dementia and actively want to make a difference. In the Dementia Leaders project, we want to train people with dementia, relatives and healthcare professionals to become co-researchers.

At the same time, we want to learn ourselves how we can best support co-researchers. We want to ensure that your voices are heard and strengthened in research and in society.

Who are we?

We, the researchers at the German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE), Witten site, are working on one of the greatest future challenges in this country: the care of people with dementia and the support of their relatives.

What are co-researchers?

Co-researchers are people who actively support us in our research but are not researchers themselves. However, they can use their own experience and skills to help improve research in a positive way. For example, they can help decide what should be researched, collect and analyse data together with the researchers or write articles.

Who can join the project?

People with dementia, relatives and healthcare professionals who are interested and committed to engaging in dialogue with us.

You do not need any prior knowledge of research. Of course, you can come to our meetings accompanied by your relative/relative.

What do you gain from „Dementia Leaders“?

In the project, you will learn about dementia research as well as how you can actively contribute to research. You will be able to exchange ideas with other people who also live with dementia and/or want to improve care for people with dementia and their relatives.

Become a Dementia Leader!

Become a pioneer for the future of care for people with dementia and care research!

Become part of a team that focusses on the care of people with dementia and their relatives. Work together with researchers, experts and dedicated people to jointly develop pioneering ideas for improving care.

Have we piqued your interest?

Then come to our kick-off event at the Ardey Hotel in Witten on 11. April 2025 from 10 to 15 and find out more about our project.

Digital meetings every two months will follow after the first meeting. We would be delighted if you are interested and would like to join us on our journey of co-research!
