DZNE Participates in New Collaborative Research Center in Bonn

“Rhineland Study” investigates impact of dietary diversity on health

Bonn (Germany), June 5, 2026. DZNE is participating in the new Collaborative Research Center (CRC) FoodDiverse, which is being led by the University of Bonn. Research at the Population Health Sciences department will focus on how dietary diversity and nutrition-related factors affect metabolism and the risk of noncommunicable diseases in adulthood. The investigations will leverage the comprehensive data from the Rhineland Study, a DZNE population-based study currently involving more than 15,000 people from Bonn, Germany.

“FoodDiverse” examines how diversity within food systems impacts both the environment and human health. A “food system” refers to all factors affecting the production, processing, transportation, sale, and consumption of food. The CRC involves several partnering research institutions, which include the University of Ghana. “FoodDiverse” is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
