TV Documentary on Dementia
Featuring DZNE experts
Bonn (Germany), November 3, 2025. In Germany, according to estimates, around 1.8 million people are living with dementia. The two-part television documentary “Hirschhausen und das große Vergessen“(“Hirschhausen and the Great Forgetting”) explores their situation and the ongoing research into causes, treatments, and prevention. Prominent science journalist and TV host Eckart von Hirschhausen talks with people with dementia, has his own dementia risk assessed, and meets “super-agers” as well as researchers. Filming took place, among other locations, at DZNE in Bonn and Magdeburg.
Both parts are available in the ARD Mediathek, and the first part will also air on German TV Das Erste on November 3. The subsequent talk show “Hart aber fair” (Topic: “Notfall Pflege: Wer sorgt für ein Altern in Würde?“ / “Emergency in Care: Who Ensures Aging with Dignity?”) will also address the subject of dementia.
