Dementia Day and Launch Event 'EU-Atlas: Dementia & Migration'

For two years, we have been working in close cooperation with the Institute for Community Medicine (Department of Health Care Epidemiology and Community Health) of the University Medicine Greifswald on the ‘EU-Atlas: Dementia & Migration’, aiming to accumulate valuable information on relevant aspects concerning dementia and migration and shine a light on an under-researched topic that deserves more attention. For the different EU, EFTA, and UK countries, we did estimations on the number of people with migration background with dementia, analyzed official documents on dementia to highlight if migration is considered, and talked to experts in this field about the care situation in the respective countries.

And now, after concluding our extensive work, we are excited to officially present the atlas!

We will give a detailed look into our project journey, the work process and the results. The atlas itself will be shown as well as the website that is especially created for it.

We are additionally delighted to announce Dianne Gove (Alzheimer Europe) talking about intercultural care and a panel discussion with the Finnish member of the European Parliament Sirpa Pietikäinen (Alzheimer Europe), the experts regarding dementia and migration T. Rune Nielsen (Danish Dementia Research Centre), Sahdia Parveen (University of Bradford), and Mohammed A. Rauf (University of Bradford), as well as one further relevant stakeholder in this field!

Best regards,
Dr. Jochen René Thyrian, Jessica Monsees, Maria Isabel Cardona, Tim Schmachtenberg
