Annual conference DZNE Witten

Considering the relatives: Understanding situations - supporting action

Most people with dementia and their relatives express the wish to live or be cared for at home for as long as possible. The organisation of these home care arrangements is mainly the responsibility of the relatives. They provide the largest share of the actual care services and act as a link between the informal and formal support system. As a rule, they are the ones who repeatedly negotiate a needs-based care mix throughout the entire course of dementia: maintaining a stable care situation in the home is their fundamental maxim for action. However, while some care arrangements remain stable for many years, others do not.

The 2021 annual conference of the DZNE Witten site will focus on the perspective of relatives and explore the questions of what constitutes stability of care at home, what challenges care-giving relatives face in their everyday lives and how they can be supported in a targeted manner in shaping their everyday care.

In the afternoon lectures and discussions, we will reflect on the challenges of nursing care in times of the COVID 19 pandemic.
