Whether Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) - neurodegenerative diseases confront our ever-aging society with major challenges. Significant advances in treatment are needed because these diseases are not yet curable and their symptoms can only be alleviated. The DZNE is seeking to meet these challenges with its research. The goal is to improve the quality of life of patients and their relatives. Around 1,000 top researchers from more than 55 nations are working hard at nine sites throughout Germany to get closer to this goal.
The DZNE is still a young institute, but DZNE research is already delivering important milestones on the way to new strategies for prevention, diagnosis, therapy and care. DZNE researchers today know more about the causes that lead to the breakdown and death of nerve cells and understand what can be improved in existing therapeutic approaches.
The study of neurodegenerative diseases is not only intensive, but also requires financial resources. In addition to funding from the federal government and the federal states, private donations can support research immensely. Only together can the challenges that these diseases cause for society be met. More information on the ways in which you can help us is available on this website (German only).
