Prof. Eike Latz and the Duo Arp/Frantz

On 16 March 2015, the DZNE hosted the 23rd installment of the “Music & Brain” series at Forschungszentrum caesar, Ludwig-Erhard-Allee 2, in 53175 Bonn.

The event started with a talk by Prof. Eicke Latz, DZNE Cooperation Unit Leader and Director of the Institute of Innate Immunity at the University of Bonn, entitled “Protection and Damage by the Immune System“. Subsequently, the Duo Arp/Franz preformed sonets by Benjamin Britten and Sergej Rachmaninow.

Prof. Latz studied Medicine in Göttingen und Berlin. After receiving clinical training in Germany, France, Malawi (Africa), and the USA he studied the molecular mechanisms of the immune response towards microbes und tissue damage first as a postdoc and later as Professor at UMass Medical School in Worcester (Massachusetts, USA). After working for 10 years in the USA, Prof. Latz was recruited to the University of Bonn in 2009, where he founded the Institute of Innate Immunity. Prof. Latz works with an international group of scientists in various locations (University of Bonn, DZNE in Bonn, Center for Inflammation Research Trondheim in Norway, UMass Medical School in the USA) on the question what triggers an inflammatory reaction in diseases prevalent in Western societies.

Duo Arp/Frantz will perform sonatas for violoncello and piano by Benjamin Britten and Sergei Rachmaninov. Julian Arp, vc, and Caspar Frantz, p, have won a large number of prestigious national and international awards and been invited to numerous chamber music festivals around the world. The Duo Arp/Frantz has so far recorded three highly acclaimed CDs, one of them conjoining works by J.S. Bach and György Kurtag.
