34th Music & Brain, 24 October 2016
On 24th October 2016, the DZNE presented the 34th installment of our Music & Brain series at Forschungszentrum caesar, Ludwig-Erhard-Allee 2, in 53175 Bonn. This was the last Music & Brain at caesar - Music & Brain will now move to the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn.
The event started with a talk by Prof. Jens Brüning, entitled The Relation Between Cerebral Energy Supply, Overweight and Neurodegenerative Diseases. The lecture was followed by the solo pianist Christoph Reuter, presenting Music of the Moment: improvisation on Grieg, Debussy, Mussorgsky and many more.
The endocrinologist and geneticist Jens Brüning took up the position of Director at the Max Planck Institute for Metabolism Research in February 2012. He gained his doctorate (1993) at the University of Cologne. Here, he was awarded the venia legendi for Internal Medicine/Endocrinology (2002). As a researcher, he is interested in the neuronal regulation of energy and glucose metabolism in connection with ageassociated (e.g., type 2 diabetes) and neurodegenerative diseases.
The pianist and composer Christoph Reuter studied in Leipzig and Berlin and graduated under Prof. Richie Beirach (New York). He creates improvisations on masterpieces of classical music and has released two albums with improvisation on Debussy and Grieg. Since 2006, he has been Eckart von Hirschhausen‘s musical companion. www.christophreuter.de
