Ph.D student position – Code 4026/2017/8

within the “Neuroprotection” group led by Prof. Notger Müller.

Your tasks:

The position is available within the DFG founded research project entitled “Determinants of Individual and Age-related Differences in Attention-modulated Information Selection”. In this project we investigate why memory capacity varies tremendously among people. Recent research has shown that information selection through attention plays an important role in this regard: subjects who have the ability to ignore irrelevant information and effectively focus on the relevant, have a higher working memory capacity than those who are bad at filtering. In this project we aim at having a closer look at what determines these individual and age-related differences, something that has not been sufficiently studied yet. Methods to be applied include (f)MRI, EEG, MEG, eyetracking, TMS and TES. The project involves designing dedicated experiments, analyzing of the data and preparing scientific manuscripts for publication.

Your profile:

The candidate (f/m) should have a background in medicine, psychology, biology or neuroscience. Prior experience with analyzing MR and other neurophysiological data is desirable but not indispensable. The candidate should be interested both in applying modern state-of-the-art neuroimaging and psychophysiological techniques and in working with elderly subjects some of which may also suffer from neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia. The candidate should have an open mind to collaborate with other groups in and outside Magdeburg. For further information please contact Prof. Dr. med. Notger Müller (notger.mueller(at)DZNE.de).

We offer:
