07/01/15 - DZNE researcher becomes scientific leader of team developing national expert standard on "Nursing Care for People with Dementia"
The number of people in Germany who require nursing care has been rising steadily for years. Demographic developments indicate that this trend will continue. A parallel increase in the number of dementia patients is also being observed. These are important grounds for expert collaboration on the development of a nursing standard for dementia patients that is sustainable nationwide.
06/23/15 - Diabetes medication reduces dementia risk
Treating people with type 2 diabetes, also known as "age-related diabetes" with antidiabetics reduces their risk for Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia. The risk is most significantly reduced by the drug pioglitazone. Researchers of the DZNE draw this conclusion from an analysis of health insurance data.
