After high school graduation and community service in a dialysis facility (1987-1989), Dr. Vollmar studied medicine at the Heinrich-Heine-University Dusseldorf (1989-1996), where he then received his MD in 2000. In addition to his training as a specialist in general medicine in various hospitals and private practices in the Ruhr area (1996-2001) he worked in 1997 in the medical information center of a pharmaceutical company in 1997. In 2001, he became a research assistant at the Witten / Herdecke University and worked among others on projects to develop and implement guidelines as well as on the further education of general practitioners especially in new media. In 2003, the Group was honored with the Richard-Merten-Prize and in 2007 Dr. Vollmar completed a two-month research project in Miami. Most recently, he served as principal investigator for a cluster-randomized trial in primary care setting. He acquired the additional formal designations for medical informatics, medical quality management and sports medicine. In 2003 he started an extra-occupational degree program in health sciences and social medicine in Düsseldorf, which he completed as with Masters in Public Health (MPH) degree in 2005. In the years 2008 and 2009 he worked at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) in Karlsruhe as a research projectleader. At the beginning of 2010, Dr. Vollmar took charge of the working group on knowledge circulation and implementation research at the DZNE in Witten. After completing his habilitation procedure, Dr. Vollmar received the Venia legendi for General Medicine and Health Sciences at the Witten / Herdecke University.
His work in the field of health services research and outcome research deals mainly with the question "How can evidence-based and action-relevant knowledge about dementia be sustainably conveyed to the different target groups (affected persons, doctors, nurses, policy makers)?". For this he utilizes quantitative and qualitative research methods, and also applies methods from other disciplines such as scientific foresight. Dr. Vollmar is the lead author of the dementia guideline of the German Society of General Practice and Family Medicine (DEGAM) and represents the association in the preparation of the National Disease Management (NVL) for dementia.
