Prof. Dr. Sabine Bartholomeyczik

Curriculum Vitae

Since 2001, Sabine Bartholomeyczik is head of the Chair Epidemiology-Nursing Science in the "School of Nursing Science, Faculty of Health" at the Witten/Herdecke University.

After a nursing education and work as a nurse in various hospitals she studied sociology and worked at the Institute of Social Medicine and Epidemiology at the German Federal Health Office in Berlin. In that time (1981), she completed her Ph.D. at the Free University of Berlin. In the late 1980s, she was on special leave to participate in the research of the AIDS Program of the CDC in Atlanta, USA with support from the DAAD (German academic exchange service). Since the early 1990s, Prof. Bartholomeyczik intensively participated in establishing the relatively late-developing nursing science in Germany and in 1993 she was appointed professor to configure one of the first academic programs in this field at the University of Applied Sciences, Frankfurt am Main. 1998 she received the Venia Legendi for the field of nursing science at the Witten/Herdecke University. At the Witten/Herdecke University her research focuses on nursing care and support of people with dementia, on questions of nutrition and malnutrition in nursing, development of assessment instruments for nursing and on the consequences of DRG based financing for acute hospital care. Since September 2009, she has been establishing the Witten Site of the DZNE with a research focus on "health care strategies for people with dementia".

Since 2009 Prof. Bartholomeyczik is Speaker of the  DZNE Witten, from 2006 to 2010 she served as a board member of the “Deutsches Netzwerk für Versorgungsforschung” (DNVF, German Network for Healthcare Research), from 1999 to 2009 as Head of the “Deutschen Gesellschaft für Pflegewissenschaft (DGP, German Society of Nursing Science), since 2001 as a Member of the Steering Committee of the “Deutsches Netzwerk für die Qualitätsentwicklung in der Pflege” (German Network for Quality Development in Nursing (DNQP), 2006-2010 as the Speaker of the “Interdisziplinären Zentrums für Versorgungsforschung" (Interdisciplinary Centre for Healthcare Research, IZVF), Witten/Herdecke University.

She was a member of the expert commission of the “Vierter Altenberichts der Bundesregierung“ (Fourth Elderly Report of the Federal Government, 1999-2002), the Commission of Inquiry of the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) “The Future of Nursing and Care in NRW” (2002-2005) and the Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry of Health to review the concept of care dependency in the long term care insurance (2006-2009) .
