Prof. Dr. Klaus Reymann

Curriculum Vitae

Since 2010 Klaus Reymann is the head of the DZNE-research group for „Pathophysiology of dementia“. From 1968-1973 he studied Biology/Neurophysiology at the Lomonossow University in Moscow. After working as research assistant at the Institute for Physiology at the University in Jena he defended his PhD  in 1979 at the  Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology of Magdeburg Medical School.  From 1977 to 1991 Klaus Reymann was establishing the Department Neurophysiology at the Institute for Neurobiology and Brain Research of the GDR’s Academy of Sciences in Magdeburg.  1987-1988 he visited collaborators at the  den Universities of Oslo and Bristol. 1989 he received the postdoctoral lecture qualification for his work on mechanisms of synaptic memory. From 1992 to 1995 war Klaus Reymann Head of the Department for Neurophysiology and member of the directors board at the follow-up Leibniz- Institute for Neurobiology. 1994 he became a full Professor for Pharmacology at the Medical Faculty of the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg an. Since 1995 he is the head of the grant-based Project Group Neuropharmacology at the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology. Prof. Reymann was a co-founder of several biotech companies. From 1996 to2010 he was the managing director of the non-profit Research Institute for Applied Neurosciences (FAN gGmbH). 2001-2002 he was in parallel the Chief Scientific Officer of KeyNeurotek AG Magdeburg. Klaus Reymann is a founder and co-organizer of the well-known International Conference Series on "Neuroprotection and Neurorepair" and a referee  for the European Research Council. His areas of research included research on stroke, neuroprotection and stem cell repair. Prof. Reymann is now focusing his preclinical research on mechanisms of vascular dementia, on therapy of dementia by deep brain stimulation and on amyloid-induced disturbance of long-term potentiation.
