Curriculum Vitae

Nikolai Axmacher is heading an Emmy Noether research group at the Department of Epileptology of the University of Bonn and a research group at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases in Bonn. He studied Philosophy and Medicine in Berlin and Paris. In his dissertation at the Institute of Physiology of the Humboldt University of Berlin and at the University Paris VI, he investigated cellular mechanisms of synaptic regulation. Since 2004, he is working at the Department of Epileptology in Bonn, where he completed his habilitation in Cognitive Neuroscience in 2009. His research domain is the Cognitive Neuroscience of memory, where he aims to understand complex human memory processes and their disturbance on a mechanistic level.
