Tim Becker studied mathematics in Mainz at the Johannes Gutenberg University. He completed his doctoral studies from 1996 to 1999 at the Technical University of Darmstadt and received his PhD in the field of algebraic geometry. Until 2001, he worked as a statistician with a German insurance company. Then, as a postdoc, he went to the Institute for Medical Biometry, Computer Science and Epidemiology at the University of Bonn, until 2007. From April to October 2008, he held a fellowship at the The Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, in the "Institutet för Medicinisk och Epidemiological Biostatitstik". In the same year, Becker qualified as a university lecturer and received the Venia Legendi for genetic epidemiology. Until 2010, he worked at the Institute for Medical Biometry, Computer Science and Epidemiology at the University of Bonn, as a research assistant. Since 2010, Tim Becker teaches at the Institute for Medical Biometry, Computer Science and Epidemiology at the University of Bonn and is group leader at the DZNE in Bonn.
