Monique Breteler receives American Alzheimer`s Association Award
DZNE-Director of Population Health Sciences honored
Vancouver/Bonn, July 16, 2012. The US-American Alzheimer`s Association honors Prof. Dr. Dr. Monique Breteler, German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE). She will be presented for her extraordinary contributions to Alzheimer’s disease research together with three other international leading scientists. The Award ceremony took place yesterday evening within the "Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC 2012)" in Vancouver (Canada).

Monique Breteler received the "2012 Bengt Winblad Lifetime Achievement Award" for her excellent research. Since 2008 the award has been presented to scientists, whose research has contributed to major scientific findings. The prize is presented annually by the Alzheimer's Association at the "Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC 2012)."
With her outstanding neuroepidemiological research within the "Rotterdam study", Breteler identified a link between life-style factors, vascular and brain diseases. Notably, she was able to provide important results and cutting-edge research in the field of dementia causes and risk factors. The "Rotterdam study" is a leading international prospective population study involving 15.000 inhabitants of Rotterdam.
In addition to her affiliation with DZNE, Breteler is a professor of population health sciences at the University of Bonn. Since 2002, she also holds an adjunct professorship at Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts (USA).
