3 Postdoctoral Researcher Positions (f/m): Code 1085/2011/1

The DZNE is a center of excellence within the Helmholtz Association that performs translational research on Neurodegenerative Diseases. The center includes eight high-performing sites in Bonn, Dresden, Göttingen, Magdeburg, Munich, Rostock/Greifswald, Tübingen and Witten.

Description: The laboratory of Prof. Pierluigi Nicotera is mainly interested in the pre-symptomatic changes of dendritic spines and the contribution to brain disorders. To study this important aspect, a series of transgenic mice have been developed and will be used to understand the relevance of specific candidate genes in neuronal disorders. The laboratory of Dr. Daniele Bano has two main focuses: the molecular mechanisms underlying age-related brain pathologies and the changes in calcium homeostasis during neuronal degeneration. Beside the extensive use of the nematode C. elegans, the laboratory has developed a series of rodent models, which are currently under investigation.

Qualification: We are inviting applications for a total of 3 postdoctoral positions available in the two groups. We expect high motivation and ability to work in an international, collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. The successful candidates will have experience with genetic mouse models, cellular and molecular biology. The projects are mainly focused on a) the changes of microRNA expression in the early phase of brain disorders; b) the alteration of mitochondrial dynamic and function as a consequence of mitochondrial DNA depletion; c) the changes in intracellular signalling pathways in models of Huntington’s disease. Findings from this project may contribute to open new therapeutic perspectives in the field of neurodegenerative diseases.

Employment, payment and social benefits are determined by the Public Sector Collective Agreement (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst - TVöD). The job location is Bonn, Germany.

The DZNE seeks to increase the number of female personnel in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply. The DZNE is committed to employing more disabled individuals and especially encourages them to apply.

Interested candidates should send their applications including a CV, a letter stating research interests and the names and contact information of two references to:
